Mark Mitchell

Founder/Head Coach

Mark was born and raised in Windsor, Ontario and has played in one of the top triple AAA highschool's in all of Canada and was the second team in Windsor, Ontario. He has trained with athletes that are playing and have played in CIS, NCAA, Euro League and even the NFL. He came to Vancouver B.C. in the summer of 2011 on a scholarship to play basketball.

He has also received training from HIGH FIVE, Equitas's PLAY IT FAIR, and I AM GAME through working in after school programs and camps for the City of Surrey, Township of Langley and the YMCA. It is through these certifications and experiences that allows him to thoroughly construct and design drills and games that will focus on the participants physical literacy and social interest while playing the game of basketball.


In 2016 and 2017, Mark coached the Regent Christian Junior boys and led them to win back to back Championships in their teir. In our second year of running Rise Up Ball Club teams, Mark led the U15 Prestige team to win 2 championships out of the 3 tournaments in B.C. in the highest division.

Wayne Best 

 Basketball Development Consultant

Wayne Best has been involved in basketball in B.C. for decades. He played in the BC High School AA (Top tier) Provincial final in 1985 then represented Basketball B.C. on the U17 Provincial team. In Arizona and California he competed against NBA players Gary Payton, Greg Foster and Marty Conlon. Other NBA players at the tournament were Labradford Smith, Mark Bryant and Sean Higgins.


Wayne played post-secondary basketball at Douglas College whose team won the BCCAA championship in 1989 and finished 4th at the CCAA National Championships.  He then went on to play for Simon Fraser University 1992-93 and former Toronto Raptor, Phoenix Sun, Canada National Mens Team head coach and former Portland Trail Blazer and current Charlotte Hornet Assistant Coach Jay Triano.

Wayne's basketball experience includes coaching boys and girls from kindergarten to the pros. He started his coaching career in 1997 in B.C. high schools. He has led 4 of the 5 teams he has coached to Provincial tournament qualifications and placings. 14 of his players extended their careers to post-secondary careers. 3 of his players went on to play professionally in Europe.


Wayne was a head coach and general manager in the American Basketball Association for the Semi- professional team Vancouver Balloholics. The team was able to be featured in the ABA game of the week on ESPN versus the Arizona Scorpions. Wayne coached Canada’s (Vancouver Balloholics) entry in the 2016 Atlas Challenge Professional tournament in China.
